Touch is one of our most valuable sensory inputs. Think about how you insert a key into a lock. You use your eyes to generally locate the position of the keyway, but you use your sense of touch to make the final adjustments as you slide the key into the opening. This comes naturally for humans. We barely think about it. Robots also benefit from the sense of touch. Force and tactile sensors enable robots to manipulate objects in less-structured environments with greater precision and sensitivity.
